vince dooley memorial park

To honor legendary University of Georgia Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Vince Dooley, the University has named the sports complex on South Lumpkin Street, The Vince Dooley Athletic Complex. As part of this project, jB+a was commissioned to design the hardscape and landscape for the gateway plaza and garden. The centerpiece of the space is a bronze statue of Coach Dooley being carried on the shoulders of his players, commemorating the 1980 National College Football Championship. A series of granite plaques surround the outer edges of the plaza and showcases the accomplishments of Coach Dooley's career. Meandering paths with overlooks to the Athletic Complex and a hidden garden creates a lush setting for visitors to explore, relax, discover, and share in Coach Dooley's life and his love of gardening.
